Women is a sculptural series giving physical form to the emotional states of women in their private world of introspection.
Historically, women’s bodies have been objectified and used to support societal agendas. In this exhibition, the sculptures represent women in non-classical body positions that do not pander to the aesthetic interests of the viewer. The women represented retain their personal agency and the right to simply exist for themselves, free from social constraints.
The works evoke a sense of body-based empathy. Bypassing rational cognition, the viewer’s body responds to the subject’s body physically. The visible emotional states of the figures invite us to listen beyond the social identity of an individual and connect to their essential humanity.
