Melanie Furtado is a visual artist using contemporary figure sculpture to explore subtle emotional states. She was born in Victoria, BC on the Westcoast of Canada. After graduating from the Victoria College of Art in 2011, she continued her studies independently to master the traditional techniques of representational sculpture. Her work has since been exhibited in Canada, the USA and France.
Melanie is also a passionate art educator. In 2018 she founded Sculpture Atelier, an independent international school for sculpture offering workshops in Canada and Europe.
She has been selected for residencies at Jour et Nuit Culture in Paris (2018-2020), Arteles Creative Center in Finland (Feb 2020), and Antony Gormley’s High House residency in England (upcoming 2021). Melanie currently lives and works between Canada and Paris, France.
