“The Canyon of Earthly Delights” is a mixed media triptych composed of three 6‘ x 3’ x 2.75” deep-cradled wood panels: “Bliss” (L), Hubris (M), and “Judgment" (R). Materials include: liquid acrylic, sumi ink, 24K gold leaf, 99.9% pure silver leaf, cotton rag mat, newspaper, manga, handmade paper, and resin. The materials are layered between multiple pours of resin, creating strata that can be visually excavated.
The triptych was commissioned by a resident of the Hollywood Hills who happens to be a fan of Hieronymus Bosch. The proposal was to combine the eschatological themes and imagery of “The Garden of Earthly Delights” with the stunning vistas beyond his balcony. My intention was also to render contemporary themes relating to the American dream, California’s devastating wildfires, Hollywood excess, and climate change.
