Francis Augusto (b. 1993) is an award-winning artist born in Uige, Angola who moved to London at age six with his mother and brother as asylum seekers fleeing civil war. His work is influenced by his childhood and sociology studies, leading him to take an observational approach. He documents everyday life at the intersection of social research, documentary and fine art. His images remind us of our shared humanity.
Adopting an ethnographic lens, Augusto explores the themes of joy, interaction and the ordinary. He invites the viewer into intimate scenes, creating a familiarity with his subjects. This approach is seen in his ‘Songs of Love and Loss’ series and Fujifilm “Instax Mini 2” campaign.
