Francis Augusto (b. 1993) is an award-winning artist born in Uige, Angola.
He moved to London at six with his mother and older brother Harvey as asylum seekers from the Angolan civil war. Francis' work is influenced by his childhood and sociology degree, which has led him to take an observational approach to image-making. He candidly documents different aspects of everyday life, operating at the intersection of social research, documentary, and fine art practice. His process results in images and moments reminding us of our humanity.
Adopting an ethnographic approach, his work explores the themes of joy, interaction and the ordinary. Francis looks to engage with the viewer, inviting them into the scene and creating an intimate familiarity with the people, place, or story captured.
