I was born in Rostov, USSR (now Russia) in 1984 and grew up in strangest time for my country, that just had stepped away from totalitarianism into troubled times of capitalism, criminal rise and oligarchy. These roots in murky contemporary Russian history are important for me.
I came to photography as a main medium because I felt that I have never had enough time to keep up with a moment, experience, place or a person, and photography allows me to hold the moment and acquire it for myself. Being late, being behind, not having enough time to keep up with changes is probably a key feeling of the contemporary era with its constant transformations.
Acrylic paint, my second medium, helps to shift the focus of visual perception from the ordinary to the imaginary, but at the same time, to the absolute, primary and incomprehensible
