A mirror has no preconceptions, and yet it forces a change in perspective upon its viewer. Any active attempts to alter another’s perceptions are invariably met with resistance. The desire for change must originate within the self. Therefore, my work strives to imbibe the characteristics of a mirror, providing an image conveyed through my visual language but adhering to the essence of reality, enabling the viewer to actualize the image on their own terms. The viewer is able to contemplate the image as they would the world around them and discover details and suggestions of their own volition. In this spirit, my work seeks to promote self-reflection without the bias of the artist’s preconceptions and to encourage the use of these thought processes beyond the artwork in the pursuit of the clarity they have brought me.
