I believe in being loud where others are silent, on topics and figures that are (kept) invisible. The oil paintings I propose respond to the ageist metaphor and the mystified superficial beauty-driven landscape we live in. I mainly paint figures who question themselves and their environment by challenging ageism, flawless appearance and stereotypical gender roles.
In doing so, I wish to somehow undermine social conventions with subdued humor. The settings that surround the protagonists are witness to the socially compelling ideal. In search of a new narrative and in an attempt to escape my own mortality through an unspoken transmission of underrepresented voices, I look to capture the contradictions in people’s lives, and the subverting fantasy expectations of today’s society.
