This new series has become one of exploration for me as a painter. With previous work, the focus was mainly about finding the everyday beauty that one could find within the urban landscape. Yet, the visual imagery of a flood in this developing body of work has also become one of familiarity — whether or not you have been directly affected, this has become ordinary to us as viewers in the modern world. I’ve chosen to make the paintings even more minimal than they would if found be in the real world. In doing this, the subject becomes just about the profoundly sad, yet eerie, lone structure that has morphed into an island amongst the vast sea of nothing.
This body of finished paintings will be part of an upcoming three-person exhibition titled; The Modernist Landscape.
