A Rainy Day is a series of oil paintings that reinterpret photographs of the artist's great-grandfather's time in WW2. Using references to comic books and war posters, Humphreys creates a narrative that examines the effect of PTSD on the subjects and served as a vehicle for processing inter-generational trauma. A Rainy Day was produced by the artist during lockdown, and became eerily relevant after the invasion of Ukraine, which is where the artist's family originally hailed from. This series seeks to investigate the force of historical and narrative painting, as well as challenge preconceived notions of contemporary art.
