Sohaila Baluch's work deals predominantly with the unravelling of the human experience and the multitude of impressions our experiences leave on us, individually and collectively. Her images explore intrinsic aspects of the human condition, of loss, mourning, ecstasy, pain, life, death, faith and transformation. Her structured compositions displace narratives whilst blurring the line between fact and fiction, allowing the real and imagined to remain fluid. There is a recurrent theme of duality, where contradictions like absence and presence, permanence and fragility are merged and investigated through employing various mediums such as collage, drawing, installation, video and photography.
Sohaila Baluch graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2003 and currently lives and works in London.
