Ummi is actually a full-time graphic designer. She has worked in many forms of design via advertising, branding, motion studios, large-scale events and even fashion from New York City, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh and now, Berlin respectively. But ever since she chose batik for her thesis project at Parsons School for Design Centennial show, she has never looked back. Now all she dreams about is sharing her love for this ancient art form in a digital space. All she wants to do is make art.
While design quotes ‘less is more’, Ummi’s art is the opposite. More can definitely can go more. Bold. Intricate. Lush. With batik, she can be anywhere in the world but at the same time, always home.
