For the past decade, Philadelphia artist M.K Komins has been passionately committed to the pursuit of creative excellence. Her work uses lush, dreamy realism and bold, hyper-saturated color to explore the juxtaposition between the glamorous empowerment of identity and the fight for human acceptance.
M.K. has developed an experimental style of image making; painting broad, digital color, printing on canvas or giclee, then striping and manipulating the pigment with chemicals such as acetone to create tonal planes. She then builds back detail with layers of traditional paint mediums like acrylics and oils. The process is a practical application of her quest to explore and expose empathy; in order to rebuild a more honest construct of humanity, we must first be willing to destroy, re-approach, and rebuild our perspective.
