Lauren Hare is an American artist whose portrait work shines a light on ordinary people, quietly observing the intersectionality of her subjects' private and public lives. Humanistically driven, Hare aims to honor her subjects’ vulnerability and humanity with hopes to foster an opportunity for engagement with the viewer, building a sense of connectedness and community.
Hare was a prizewinner in the 2019 Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, and exhibited in the resulting exhibition, The Outwin 2019: American Portraiture Today at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. Hare is a prizewinner in the 2020 Portrait of Humanity competition, and exhibited on a global tour, and in Volume 2 of Portrait of Humanity, published by Hoxton Mini Press in collaboration with British Journal of Photography.
