Jonathan Viner (b. 1976) is an American painter based in Rhode Island. He earned a BFA from RISD in 1998 and began his career in NYC as a freelance illustrator for publications like The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, and Playboy. After gaining attention in a Lower East Side group show, he spent two decades exhibiting in galleries before returning to Rhode Island to design and build a home and studio for his family and art practice. Working primarily in oils, Viner blends traditional craftsmanship with the pluralism of contemporary art, creating precise, conceptually open portraits that challenge institutional conventions in favor of personal vision.
