Javier E. Piñero is a Puerto Rican documentary and fine art photographer based in NYC. He received his BA in Communications from the University of the Sacred Heart and an MS in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from New York University.
For more than seven years, Piñero has developed a practice ranging in subject matter from street views to documentary work and self-portraiture. He began his career as a United States Marine Corps unit photographer, documenting Nato exercises throughout the American, Asian, and European continents.
Recently he's shifted his attention to the personal, with a series that explores nudity and its connection to psychological shifts and another that communicates Puerto Rico's cultural trauma. In June 2024, his first photo essay, Survived by Few, will be published in Smithsonian Magazine.
