Jana Ireijo was born in Honolulu in 1968. Growing up in the crossroads between the East and West, her adolescent life was shaped as much by Hello Kitty and 70’s Japanese action shows, as well as Star Wars, surf culture, and Vogue magazine. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design from UH Manoa, she moved to NYC to obtain an MFA in Painting from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn (where she won the Outstanding Graduate Student award). Jana is inspired to use pop culture (especially 80’s images) as a universal visual language that connects us, as well as tells a personal story of nostalgia and fantasy. She is currently working on a series of murals, and has exhibited her work across the United States, Germany, and Australia. In 2013, Jana was juried into the nearly century old Silvermine Artists Guild in Connecticut.
