Geoff Masland is interested in the tension between absence and presence, and the paradox of emptiness within excess. A self-taught artist, he uses paper collected from damaged and discarded books and periodicals withdrawn from circulation. The imagery in his artwork is self-reflective and explores his feelings around the history and imagined future of communities throughout Maine.
He is one of the 35 artists to have been selected to have their works featured in the recent 2023 CMCA Biennial exhibition, the longest-running statewide juried exhibition in Maine, highlighting the latest developments in contemporary art by Maine-based and connected
artists. Geoff was recently selected as a featured artist in New American Painting Issue 152 – Northeast 2021 by juror Liz Munsell, Curator of Contemporary Art at BOS Museum of Fine Arts
