Friske is an outsider artist from a small town in Georgia. After getting his license in cosmetology, He began to make art inspired by the concepts and practices he learned. Color theory, sculpting techniques, and continuing education are still the cornerstones of his current practice. His first sculpture was made in Atlanta (2017), where he was making a living as a sex worker. It was after moving to Brooklyn, NY that he continued to make sculptures out of Vinyl records which are manipulated and reconstructed into floral shapes. These pieces, which take inspiration from his roots in a small town in Georgia as well as the grandeur and industrial beauty of New York City, are an expression of Friske’s experiences working in the sex industry and living as a member of the queer community.
