Born in the Bronx, NY, Karen attended Syracuse University as a painting major, where she received a BFA in painting including a year abroad at St. Martins School of Art, London, UK, where she started creating photograms under the same professors that worked with Gilbert and George. Pushing the boundaries of conventional black and white photography, Karen produces large scale, life size, one-of-a-kind photograms, using a variety of techniques, creating imagery as no one has done before. Recent Photograms depict her journey into adulthood exploring themes of religion, parenting and life in a Los Angeles community.
“Seeing your work installed at this exhibition meant more to me than the digital submission; I liked it even more.”
- Edward Goldman – Art Critic, National Public Radio & Huffington
