Bennett Ewing AKA Eyevan Tumbleweed is an American artist from Massachusetts (b. 1982). He is best known for his representational sculpture in the found wood medium.
Neither carving nor coloring found wood, Ewing creates faces and forms by piecing his finds together by trial and error. What's more? The artist achieves this without any internal framework or premeditated vision.
The search for wood is a necessary ritual for Ewing, occurring 3 times a week year-round. He creates from a materials collection over a decade in the making, using wood found in close to 40 American states and several other countries.
Unlike artists of most other mediums, Bennett cannot simply buy more materials at the art supply store. Instead, he always has an excuse to explore nature, in search of the wood pieces to larger unknown puzzles.
