Amy Laskin was born in Philadelphia but practices art from a studio in the rural Blue Mountains of Jamaica. Her fascinations form the basis for the compositions. She is recognized for both her mysterious paintings of Jamaican mountain ranges as well as paintings that amalgamate costumed, fragmented female forms, floral bursts and the ambient surroundings. She has a proclivity for surface concerns and her paintings are built up with many thin layers of blended paint and marks. Ultimately her themes are concerned with the connective tissue between mother earth, human kind and mystery.
She received her MFA from SAIC and lived in Chicago before her contract as a Peace Corps Volunteer brought her to Jamaica. Her work is in many private and corporate collections internationally, and has had numerous one person and solo exhibitions
