Amy Ordoveza paints small, precise still-lifes in gouache, gradually building up the paint in translucent layers to achieve rich colors and refined edges. Through her paintings, she has explored the significance that can become attached to ordinary objects such as vitamins, seashells, and plant life through associations and metaphors. She is inspired by artwork from many cultures and time periods, especially Northern Renaissance and 17th century Dutch paintings, drawings, and prints. Ms. Ordoveza studied painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the New York Academy of Art. She currently lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
