This January I accompanied my good friend and collaborator Vuyo on a week-long recording session and cultural exchange at the Bamboo Cottage Studio in Johannesburg, South-Africa.
I documented the constant stream of musicians and artists who came through our studio and home in these 35mm portraits.
South-Africa, and Joburg in particular, is usually noted for it's high rate of crime and poverty, which is certainly a reality for too many, but this new wave of young, creative and politically conscious South-Africans are stepping up for the world to take notice of the unbelievable culture and talent that also exists in a place often disregarded under the banal "Third World" status.
