The idea for the project came about after watching In the Mood for Love and admiring its use of foreground elements that bleed in from the frame’s edges. These blurry elements don’t carry any narrative weight, but provide an emotional layer through light and color alone. This experience brought me to question the role of focus in photography, specifically how essential it is to creating a beautiful image. The result is a series of photographs that are entirely out of focus. This frees the elements of light and color from any associative imagery and allows the viewer to appreciate their pure emotive power.
