Though known for its qualities of serenity, peace and dormancy, winter jumps out at you too, shows underlying movement, color and joy. I used ICM techniques and occasional multiple exposure overlays to further bring winter landscapes to life, panning vertically and horizontally, swirling, zooming my 24-105mm lens and shooting mostly at 1/8 shutter speed to give the winter scenery plenty of time to dance. And dance it did, whether broad landscapes or macro close-ups, winter blurs in ecstasy, colors, jumps out at you, shows you it is alive and moving under cover. And yet it is still, as if no one is watching. This duplicitous offering is magnificent, offered almost with a wink of winter’s eye to show you that it, as most things, is much more than what appears on the surface.
