I am a photographer based in New Orleans, having my spent childhood and early adulthood in New York City. I attended the the School of Visual Arts (SVA) and graduated from Parsons School of Design. This project revolves around a collection of my family’s archival Kodak slides, which I project with current self portraits. I have also incorporated phrases I often heard within my family growing up. This body of work aims to explore the narrative of expectations that my family imposed on their children based on their gender. Growing up in 1960s New York City, I, as the youngest girl with two older brothers, experienced the pressure to prioritize aesthetics over intellect and ambition as a young woman.
