More than any other kind of space, domestic interiors seem imbued with story and meaning. This inherent significance is romantic and attractive, and for that reason, I want to subtly or drastically sabotage it within my work. Domestic space is just another curated experience, influenced by shifting trends and whims, no more real than a social media presence. With painting and collage, I intend to chip away at narratives by altering things within a domestic scene, like perspective, pattern, color, and form, so that underlying meaning is destabilized or completely confused. I source life-drawings and photographs of close friends and family, along with stock images, catalogues and magazines, TV shows and movies, and art historical images, so that the ultimate conglomeration of imagery is familiar but unreal.
