Unearth is a series of artworks that shows nature in its rawest form. The paintings illustrate rugged and sometimes dangerous environments with a distinct physicality and energy. Layers of oil paint, cold wax, and india ink are used to create dynamic and sculptural landscapes filled with movement. The build-up and scraping down of the various layers of medium reveal markings that reflect the earth’s natural process of erosion and wear over time. Remnants of initial thoughts can be identified in ink strokes and other markings as revealed through the layers. The work challenges us to reflect on personal experiences and seek the balance between calm and chaos in nature and in our own minds.
