To light and then return examines the things we carry with us, both emotionally and physically—across lands from place to place. This project began while I was driving across the country with a car full of ephemera I had inherited after my mother passed away; it combines many forms and generations of image and text with photographs I made while tracing the landscapes found in this archive for which I was now caretaker. Taking its name from a short fragment of a poem by Emily Dickinson written on the back of a used envelope, this work aims to value the everyday sediments of life while meditating on loss.
