The Salesladies at Riga's Market
Centrāltirgus, Riga, Nov’16 – Aug‘17
After its opening in 1930, the central market in Riga has been the biggest and most modern market in Europe. Elements of former zeppelin hangars from World War I were used for building the huge halls. Located in the city center, the market is often referred to as the ‘belly of the city’. Today it is still famous for its authentic local specialities like smoked fish and salted pickles.
I have portrayed the saleswomen and their very unique appearance with colourful uniforms and haircuts, which remind of another era.
