the portraits of dang

I've let go of rules and explored within the confines of a simple figure. I play with layers, textures, tools, erasure, and time. The work is improvisational; a conversation that evolves through process.
For me, the figures express the tension between our inner and outer worlds, while addressing themes of mental health and identity.
I’ve thought about a great many things and breathed in and out of this work for four years. I’ve met myself in new ways in the process. I have seen lost friends and shadows of unmet others; reflections of me—and of us—that I could not have created had I tried.
I hope you see something familiar here, too.
