The Living Food Sculptures is a personal project created at home with a very simple set up, using only natural light and a reflector. I detach myself from all the ‘rules’ and technical skills I have as a photographer to tune in with my imagination and the magic it can bring out of everyday objects.
These series are not really about food yet it provokes senses. There is a character in every object, and when combined in a composition it creates a playful and somewhat theatrical dynamics. The process of discovering these dynamics is painstaking yet meditative. It requires staying present and seeing what’s in front of me and what that suggests. I never imagine prior what it’s going to be. Only at the end do I see the emotions it evokes, reflecting the desires and dreams expressed unconsciously through a simple visual image.
