For the past couple of years, my work has revolved around the culture created by social media and the symbols we use to communicate within this new media landscape, specifically the like button, memes, and emojis. I'm interested in the way in which our experiences are brought to us via algorithms based on likes and popularity and the possible detrimental effects on our mental health. I wonder about how much of our lives are being preoccupied with constructing images for others to consume and the need to participate in the liking of others images instead of engaging in activities outside of our digital spaces.
