Since I first stepped foot in the Guarantee Building I was mesmerized and knew I wanted to live in it. I jumped at the opportunity and moved in August of 2020. The building is a special place for me and for many others. It is where I experienced the lockdowns of 2020, where I first started to feel at home in Montreal and where I have found a community of like-minded people. Through this project, I aim to contribute to the archive of this building for generations to come. I was inspired by archival photos of housing around Montreal from the early 1900s.
Built in 1912, the building is said to have originally been used for textile manufacturing. More than half a century later it was bought by the current owner and turned into 24 loft spaces and has since remained relatively unchanged. Over the years the lofts have been manipulated
