I make crystal collages under the name Cartesian Graphics. My work is grid based and very precise. I suppose I am a minimalist at heart and yet, paradoxically, I have chosen crystals, a decidedly maximalist material, as my medium.
The Crystiles series consists of iconic textile patterns that I have recreated using Swarovski crystals glued onto a giclee printed grid. Argyle and Tartan, both traditional Scottish designs, are shown here. The Crystiles were my first crystal collages. Having worked with fabric for twenty years, first in fashion and then in graphic design, before venturing into crystal collage, textiles patterns were a natural subject for my first crystal artworks.
