Thauma in Greek means: “a wonder or marvel, and thaumaturgy, the magic of miracles.” It is also the name of my application. This sense of “magic” is the key to opening a new world.
Thauma is my experiment of the confrontation between humans and new technologies: the digital realm which infers magic, wonder, and addiction; the allure of technology as a dangerous enthrallment; and the paradox appears when the wonder also becomes a haze.
This project was created by addressing traditional animated technology. There are two layers in the completed implementation. I used a film sheet and a composition of underlying fragmentary images. The viewers are required to use the film sheet on the top of the image to swipe to acquire the integrated message, much like using our fingers to swipe to bring in objects or screens.
