I am fascinated by materials and my practice is based largely on the exploration of the inherent possibilities and limitations of each medium I use. I have taught myself how to weave, felt, needle punch, etc. and how to use these techniques to create soft sculptures and “thick 2D” work. I’ve recently picked up rug tufting as a way to work on a much larger scale as well as to be able to create pieces more efficiently. Working on an 8’ by 8’ frame, I work into a backing material with my tufting gun. These labor intensive processes I use can take days to complete such as using my finger to dot black or white pigment onto a 9’ by 11’ muslin canvas and weavings that can take six months.
