Materials trigger a sensual desire by inducing an instinctual yearning to caress something based on its visual tactile information. My process evokes nostalgia for a childhood impulse to discover the world through the touch of a hand. The physical perception of feeling through meditative, controlled gestures constructs the natural, abject form the fabric takes after being handled. The textures revealed from laborious, handmade processes bring to light past experiences of emotional reactions to tactility.
Craft evokes a childlike desire to blindly touch, to feel—an inclination often lost in the wariness of unfamiliar emotions for an adult. The final products offer contemplation on this potential discrepancy between haptic perception and emotion.
