‘Structure’ is a series of Brutalist inspired acrylic paintings that reference the infamous architectural movement as a point of departure within contemporary painting. Brutalism is having somewhat of a revival among creatives but remains an eye-sore to the general public. It was the go-to style for projects in numerous countries during the post-war period, so it's something many see but don't really admire. But this aesthetic has taken on a new life within recent years thanks to dedicated social media communities. Brutalism is graphic, mechanical, & repetitive so transferring this language into painting fit well within the contemporary context. The linear precision of the series reflects the language of early Brutalist architecture & works alongside intuitive & organic mark making to create subtle tonal shifts, depth & texture.
