How will we survive? Why does everyone feel so alone? What will our technologies do to us? I created these paintings contemplating some of these questions. The expressionist painter Edvard Munch vividly captured the anxiety of modernity in Europe. In a similar way, I create paintings that hope to reflect the complexities of our experience today.
Influences for these particular works range from the optimism of Russian cosmists, to the aspiration of space exploration and quantum computing. Formally, I’m exploring the plasticity and versatility of acrylic media, along with the color possibilities of CMYK process inks. These works are both improvised and meticulously planned out. I’m fascinated with the potential of these materials and finding new ways to layer them into strange and exciting topographies.
