My work confronts issues of race, gender, and identity through photography, mixed media, and video. I aim to encourage discussions around the construction of blackness, confront the concept of whiteness, and leave room for personal crises/reflection in attempt to find a safe space in contemporary American life.
I have found collage and mixed media visually eloquent methods of synthesizing different issues around race, gender, and identity. I describe my practice as creating and collecting varying images most of which are figurative through film photography and from cultural sources which varies from magazines to social media. I often explore what it means to be a first generation Muslim immigrant and a Black woman in the United States.
