Katherine’s work is interdisciplinary, focusing on the natural world and the subject of the human condition. Her process is rooted in exploring her own history and life experience; it is a form of self discovery. Katherine seeks to forge a connection with the viewer by creating visual harmony even in subject matter that might seem raw or offensive.
In her photographic work she developed an interest in working with themes related to heroism and the sea. This need to use the photographic medium in this context comes from her fascination with ‘seeing’ the sea and being in it. Her interest is further nurtured by her experience as a surfer, bodyboarder and diver.
