Within the tradition of painting from life, the artist becomes a camera leaving a journalistic trail of imagery. Photographs flatten a subject into a frame; paint offers a sensitivity to value & color not often recognized.
Primarily representational and working in Detroit, I strive to illustrate a dialogue between the brush strokes of realism and shapes of abstraction while depicting the familar subject matter. My goal is to connect with the viewer by painting familiar sights that are visually realistic from a distance yet composed in a painterly manner.
