Johanne Hémond is originally from Montréal but has been a Victoria resident for over fifteen years. She finds inspiration in the environment that surrounds her.
"My artwork is abstract, with figurative or landscape elements. I love the idea of the viewer attempting to decipher my work. It is an outward projection of my internal landscapes. It reflects the range of emotional textures that I bring to my world. It starts with a base that builds into lines and/or texture. Drips, splatters, wiped surfaces and the application of thick layers of colour and/or wax are all part of the process. For my encaustics/mixed media work, I get inspired by images, mostly, by my photography.
