Francis Bacon once said "I want a very ordered image but I want it to come about by chance". The dichotomy of chaos and order is a recurrent theme in my work and I try to reflect that in my process. When making a painting I enjoy finding ways to rearrange an image or introduce marks that are unexpected and then respond to these marks. Working in this way seems to me a microcosm for life in that things are constantly changing; being broken and reassembled and infinitude of times over in each moment. Often, I find that these paintings become a mishmash of ideas, images and half-truths that amount to a ghoulish collection of the sum of their parts.
