My name's Charissa Soriano. I'm a Filipino documentary photographer based in Seattle. I named this series of photographs as "Shedding Light," because it's what I seek to do in my vocation. I aim to bring to light stories that are often forgotten and ignored, whether it be stories of relationships, identity and culture in the framework of history or current societal issues. As an artist, my work is constantly evolving. But what has remained is my love and appreciation for light. I strive to embrace the way it casts shadows, create reflections and most of all, empower people to be who they are. By working with light, I get to say, "I see you and I value you."
All in all—photography is not about me, but those that I photograph.
