Refugees are a valuable part of our communities- our front line doctors, surgeons, restaurant owners, hairdressers, models, actors, artists & musicians, people we work with & come into contact with daily.
Seeking Peace was shot in 2021 through volunteering at a welcome space for asylum seekers & refugees. All pictured had arrived days before from Afghanistan.
I expected them to be unsure or shy. Some were very shy. All wanted to take part. They want their voices to be heard. It was apparent they also wanted to help me. I was struck by their kindness. They want to collaborate & connect. What they want most is to return home safely,to the country, family & friends they love & were forced to leave. Knowing this isn’t possible they wish to start to rebuild their lives here& work to support themselves & give back.
