My latest body of work, "Seasons of Unravelling" started forming in 2020, a challenging year when shock became part of the collective experience. With these paintings featuring embodied natural disasters, I mark time by creating a metaphor for the pandemic as a personal apocalypse. Digesting my experience through drawing, I was able to get closure on events that took away an innocent part of me and traded it with emotional baggage. The title refers to “unravelling” as the motion of spiraling out of control, as well as the idealistic anticipation for a disentangled world. Using line as a form of unravelling, my narratives unfold through spins and loops in a kind of reckless abandonment to motion. Despite the dark undertones of the subject matter, my mark-making and narratives keep the work light and playful.
