Sean Hannaway was born in Chicago and graduated with a BFA from Northern Illinois University. His style is one part teenager’s notebook, one part Where’s Waldo and one part Renaissance master. The push and pull between the styles, colors and layers create an intense and colorful world, packed from edge to edge with tiny bits of insanity. Hannaway's work is a twisted knot of modern-day life, layered with a calm and refined figurative wash.
Current solo exhibition: Mostly Virgins at Galerie F (Chicago), runs through March 31st
“Bursting with immaculate textures and vibrant layering, Sean Hannaway’s new body of work integrates neon urban vibes with classical renaissance beauty. Each piece is jammed with high energy imagery from retro gaming, graffiti winks, statuesque figures and cherubs. The details are a must-see in person.”
